Planning in full swing as new Grand Linear Reserve set to open in Deanside in 2022

AVID Property Group (AVID) has this month completed construction on the first phase of the new $1.7M Grand Linear Reserve at its Carolina community in Deanside, with the second phase set to commencing mid-2022.

Spanning more than 1 kilometer in length, the Grand Linear Reserve will form a 1km green corridor through the new community and will include walking and cycling trails, open green space and seating areas.

AVID Property Group General Manager Victoria, Peter Vlitas, said while the park was always part of the plan for Carolina, the strict COVID-19 restrictions over the past 18 months had only escalated the need for access to green space and healthy urbanism in the community.

“Our goal at Carolina – and at every AVID community – is for residents to have access to open green space, right on their doorstep – something that couldn’t be more important right now as we continue to live through COVID-19 restrictions,” Mr Vlitas said.

“While plans for the park are still in early stages, more than two hectares of land will be dedicated to the park, which will be delivered over several phases throughout Carolina’s development life cycle.

“The unique layout of the park means we can create a really versatile space, allowing for a design that connects the social and recreational needs of the community.

Mr Vlitas said creating a sense of place in a new community was essential for residents to feel connected to the area.

“Here at AVID, we really believe that planning and delivering parks early so that they are the heart of the community is central to creating a sense of place,” Mr Vlitas said.

“The Grand Linear Reserve is designed to do just that – to become a real community hub for people to enjoy spending time outdoors close to home, and to actively participate in the community.

“There’s a lot of interest in this development and seeing the Grand Linear Reserve come to life over the next year will give our future residents a small vision of what this great community will grow to become.”

Tract Consultants, appointed by AVID Property Group, will lead the design of the new park.

Tract Associate Landscape Architect Katie Allen said the importance and appreciation of open spaces for local communities meant the new park would meet demand for varied community amenity.

“The Carolina Grand Linear Reserve will form a network of green areas to provide residents an opportunity for a vast array of activity throughout this connected open space,” Ms Allen said.

“It will provide opportunities for passive recreation, informal play and community gathering through large swathes of open lawn, low mounding, garden beds and seating areas.

“A shared path network runs will also run through the linear open space to encourage walking, cycling, running. This will allow residents opportunities for passive and non-organised recreation which contributes to physical health and wellbeing.”
